5 Days Gorillas and Chimpanzee tracking (Kibale/Bwindi)

Day 1: Travel to Kibale Forest National Park

Early in the morning after breakfast our guide/driver will meet you at 7:00am brief you about your safari before you start your journey for a memorable tour full of adventure in the wilderness. Drive to the western part of Uganda 15-20 minutes from fort portal to Kibale Forest National Park a 5-6 hours’ drive from Kampala, on your way you will pass a number of cultivators in different villages where you will see people at work planting different types of traditional crops like millet, sorghum, beans and maize. The thrilling rolling hills in this region provide good pictorial scene not forgetting the famous tea plantation region as you approach fort portal in the foothills of Ruwenzori Mountains, the flat green tea plantation is so amazing you may not want to miss this picture. on going you will be at kibale forest national park known for the highest number and diversity of primate species (13 spices of primates), Red-colobus, Blue, Red-tailed and Grey Cheeked Mangabey, Black and white colobus monkey etc. a terrific area for birds. On arrival check in at your preferred choice of accommodation, you may opt to interact with the community about their culture, story telling’s and cultural dancing then back to the lodge relax have diner and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale National Park & Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary

Have breakfast at 7:00am and drive to the headquarters kanyanchu River Camp for a briefing about our long awaited most popular activity in this park (chimpanzee tracking) which starts at 8:00am, you will be appointed to different groups with game rangers of which you will carry out the activity with. Chimpanzees are man’s closest cousins though they are one of the most threatened primate species, while on this walk we find the chimps by listening to their pant-hooting calls, then move following the sounds. We spend 1 hour with the primates at a close range allowing you to take close-up pictures, these chimps are habituated for up to 2 years to get used to human presence so they will continue with their activities as your present.

Besides the chimps expect to More primates like black and white colobus monkeys, , red-tailed monkeys, bush babies, grey-cheeked mangabey and  pottos among others not forgetting different bird species and mammals like elephants can be spotted while in this walk. In the afternoon we may visit the forest swamp for the perfect viewing of primates and other forest animals. Later we head back to the lodge and plan for the next day, relax, diner and overnight.

Day 3:Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast in the morning get ready to transfer to bwindi impenetrable national park with packed lunch via the isasha sector so that we can view the tree climbing lions and other animals. On your way expect to enjoy the beautiful scenery of mountains and plantations.

On your arrival at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park check in at your lodge of choice to shower, refreshment, relax, diner and overnight.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After an early morning breakfast drive to the headquarters for a briefing by the game rangers before you start the long awaiting activity of gorilla trekking probably it may take the whole day. Gorilla trekking is done through the rainforest and bamboo covered slopes directed by the well trained guide about tracking in search of the mountain gorillas. Sometimes finding them takes long but when found a smile comes around your face guided at a distance of 6 meters from the gorillas, you will monitor them for 1 hour enjoying their round eyes, taking pictures, study their way of living to mention but a few.

The time you take trekking the mountain gorillas is unpredictable, the hiking may take up to 2-8 hours. Expect to encounter long distances through steep and muddy conditions before you encounter any gorillas you are advised to carry rain coats, jungle boots and maybe a walking stick.


Day 5: Drive back to Kampala.

After breakfast we begin our journey back to Kampala driving through the terraced escarpment of southern Uganda with scenic views of the hills dubbed “the Switzerland of Africa”. On the en-route to Mbarara are the longhorn-Ankole cattle as you proceed make a stopover at the equator for some pictures and maybe purchase some crafts. Arrival in Kampala will be in the evening and our guide/driver will drop you at your drop point.
